FAMILY TRADITIONS

Every family has at least one holiday tradition. I have heard many throughout the years. Being in the military, you serve with people from many cultures and backgrounds. That was one of my favorite parts of the military, learning about the different cultures and the traveling. Here at Created Outdoors, we have staff from a few different states, and different cultures.

Growing up, my mom would always make cookies with us. It was usually a weekend deal. We would make sugar cookies, chocolate chip, peanut butter blossoms, oatmeal raisin, and buckeyes. My grandma on my mom’s side would make pizzelles. My mom is full blooded Italian, and an Italian family never gets together without pizzelles. Nikki and I have since taken over making the pizzelles.

Nikki’s side of the family, her grandmother always made a bucket of cookies for each of us to take home. Inside the bucket would always be potato candy. This was one of my favorite treats for the holidays. The most joyous tradition at her grandmothers however, was singing Happy Birthday to Jesus. Her grandmother would bake a cake every year, light candles, and we would all sing Happy Birthday. The birth of Jesus Christ is in fact the reason for Christmas. It made you feel grateful as you sing, after all, Jesus is the reason that we have the opportunity to get into Heaven.

Here are some of the traditions shared from our team here at Created Outdoors.
