Christmas Debate
It seems that every year I see people arguing on social media about whether or not Christmas is the actual birth date of Jesus. Why people should or should not celebrate Christmas. Is it a Christian holiday, or a Pagen holiday? Let us look into some gospel that may assist in guiding us.
Even the bible does not give an exact date of the birth of Jesus Christ. Due of the lack of biblical mention, and evidence, scholars are unable to be precise on the date as well. However, there are some passages within the bible that describe the details surrounding His miraculous birth. Mathew 1:20-21 states “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” So, these passages tell us that Jesus is conceived to save us all from our sin.
The bible tells us to do everything in Christ. 1 Corinthians 10:31 says “So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” This particular passage urges us to be the best version of ourselves. We should give thanks for every blessing that is provided, each meal, thirst quenching drink, relationships, and jobs. Give thanks to God for all those around us that we care about, and those that care about us. Most of all, give thanks for the love, grace, and glory of our Lord God.
Lastly, let us look at Colossians 2:16-17 “Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.” In other words, celebrate these events, but give thanks to Christ for such events. Those of us here at Created Outdoors, as well as most hunters, we pay attention weather patterns, moon phases, and barometric pressure when hunting whitetail deer. When the conditions are right for our favorite stand, and we are blessed enough to harvest a deer, you can bet that we certainly give thanks to our Lord and Savior for the bounty of food the animal provides. So, does the date of the birth of Jesus truly matter? What really matters is that Jesus was born, and that Jesus died to cleanse us of our sins.
Every day, is a day for celebrating Christ. Celebrate the love, forgiveness, and grace that is undeservingly given to us. The blessings continuously bestowed upon us. So, celebrate the birth of Jesus this Christmas. Give him the praise that he so deserves, and pray and grow your relationship with Christ often.
