Sure Footing

Sure Footing

There have been a lot of things that have changed in our lives over the last several weeks. Where we travel and how we travel is one of the things that has been affected most. Our visits with loved ones have become Zoom gatherings and parades. Concerts and conventions have become live streams and webinars. Other changes include work-place and financial changes with the closing of businesses, layoffs, and the rapid decrease in many of our consumer markets. It’s enough to make us feel like we’re trying to stand in a floating canoe.

On the flip side of these shortcomings, we have seen more families getting outside and living the moment. Families going for long walks and bike rides. Families going hiking, fishing, and doing crafts together. Writing letters and sending packages. Overall, our daily lives have become both simpler and more complicated all at the same time.

So many of the best memories I have growing up were family moments when we turned off the TV and spent some time together. Of course, it was during a time before technology and social media were not so advanced. We didn’t have a lot of gear when we would hike or fish, and it was before smartphones and Google Maps, but sometimes that made things interesting.

One memory I have specifically I was hiking with my Dad and two younger brothers. We had been hiking for hours and we made a realization that we had no idea where we were. We ended up doing a couple of loops in the same area, and it was at that point one of my brothers said that we have to pray. Whenever Mom loses something she stops getting upset and takes a moment to pray. She always finds what she’s looking for when she does that. Since God helps Mom find stuff that is lost, he can help us too.

We ended up finding our way back, but it’s always been a constant reminder to me that when you find yourself lost and looking for directions, God knows right you are and will direct your steps.

Psalms 121

I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber;
 indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.  The Lord watches over you— the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.

The Lord will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.

Whether we are outdoorsmen and women decked out in our Blocker Outdoor gear, struggling to get the Toms to respond to our Lynch Mob Calls. Some of us are more avid deer hunters wearing out our Walk-On Archery targets, or we’re out spreading our Hightower HD200 in preparation for fall during this quarantine. Regardless of where we find ourselves in our day to day right now sometimes we just need to be still. Holding to these scriptures that remind us how God has a plan for us, and it is he who secures our footing when we allow Him to guide us.

The Created Outdoors team is here for you if you have questions about who Jesus is; if you have prayer requests or if you would just like to talk. Our team would love to hear from you and we are grateful for the chance we have had to spend some time with you.

Please remember that no matter where you are in your life, and regardless of anything that is or that was; Jesus Loves You! He always has, and always will.
